About Me

Working With Your Lawyer

About ten years ago, I was involved in a bad car accident. Another driver, who happened to be driving drunk at the time, smashed into the car I was driving. In addition to killing my daughter, the accident also left me paralyzed from the waist down. Although the case should have been cut and dry, the insurance company claimed that I was at fault. Fortunately, I worked with a lawyer who was able to fight my case for me. Without his help, I would still be paying off medical bills. I want to spread the word about the good that lawyers can do, which is why I created this website.

Six Priorities To Focus On Regarding Your Workers' Compensation Claim

It can at first feel overwhelming to pursue a workers'' compensation claim if you've never been involved with a workers' compensation case. If you focus on a few priorities, you can get through your workers' compensation claim with minimal stress and maximize your chances of having your claim approved.

The following are six priorities to focus on regarding your workers' compensation claim.

Finding the right workers' compensation lawyer

Your number one priority should be finding a workers' compensation lawyer to represent you. With professional representation from a lawyer who specializes in workers' compensation cases, you'll enjoy the best chances of winning your case and getting the compensation that you need and deserve. Do your research and find a law firm near you that can offer expertise and a record of success in workers' compensation cases.

Getting needed medical treatment for your injury

While getting workers' compensation for your on-the-job injury is important, it's also important for you to take care of yourself and heal from your injury. Undergoing treatment is especially important due to the fact that your medical records will be vital piece of evidence as you pursue your workers' compensation claim.

Being persistent

In many situations, being persistent is important in workers' compensation cases. Some claims are initially denied so that an employee has to follow up with an appeal before being approved for benefits. You need to be patient regarding your claim and avoid giving up too soon.

Going in for your independent medical examination

You might be obligated to undergo an independent medical examination as part of pursuing your workers' compensation claim. This is a medical examination that is carried out by the insurance company.

The independent medical examination is an important requirement for your workers' compensation claim. You need to make sure that you give accurate information during this examination, so it's important to prepare for it by going over the questions that are likely to come up with your lawyer.

Keeping up with any deadlines you need to meet

You may need to keep up with various deadlines as part of your workers' compensation claim. The most important deadline you need to meet is the deadline by which you need to notify your employer of your injury. You also may need to meet a deadline for filing your claim depending on which state you live in.

Keeping careful records

The records you keep regarding not only your medical treatment, but also the expenses that result from your injury are an essential part of supporting your claim. That's why it's so important for you to be organized and keep good records.
