About Me

Working With Your Lawyer

About ten years ago, I was involved in a bad car accident. Another driver, who happened to be driving drunk at the time, smashed into the car I was driving. In addition to killing my daughter, the accident also left me paralyzed from the waist down. Although the case should have been cut and dry, the insurance company claimed that I was at fault. Fortunately, I worked with a lawyer who was able to fight my case for me. Without his help, I would still be paying off medical bills. I want to spread the word about the good that lawyers can do, which is why I created this website.

When You Have Injuries That Are Hard To Define

A personal injury lawsuit is designed to provide you with the financial compensation you deserve because you got hurt due to the negligent or purposeful behavior of another person. Injuries are not always easy to prove, and your losses could be difficult to calculate. While pecuniary losses such as wages, property damage, or medical bills are easy to add up, assigning a numerical value to your injuries can take some time. When you are hurt, the first step is to get quality medical care to carefully assess what is going on.

Your Pain and Suffering Are Important

The amount of pain and suffering you experience will have an impact on how much money you receive for your injuries. The theory is that the more you have suffered, the more compensation you are entitled to. This is one way to differentiate compensation for the various levels of injury instead of providing the same compensation, regardless of the extent of pain and suffering. To prove your pain, you will need to go to medical treatment and be honest about every symptom you have.

Talk to Your Treatment Team

The extent of your injuries are going to be evaluated by all members of your treatment team. The only way they can gather information is to see you for treatment. If you skip appointments, it will appear as though you are not committed to your own healing. When you are struggling every day, your treatment team members need to know what is going on for you. When you are referred to specialists, schedule the appointments as soon as possible.

Document How You Are Feeling

Take the time every day to write about how your day went. If you were in pain, write it down. If you were struggling to get through the day, write down why. While each day may feel the same, you may see patterns in how you are feeling when you document everything. This journal can be valuable to your treatment providers, giving them insight into how each day goes for you.

Even if your injuries are hard to establish, it's important to continue treatment and not give up. When you are persistent with treatment and you work with a personal injury lawyer, you will have the best chance at getting the compensation you deserve. If you are no longer able to work because of your injuries, it is important to try and secure your financial future through a personal injury lawsuit. Contact a personal injury lawyer to learn more.
